How to use your Tosarion course

Everything explained from the beginning: the lab guides and the companion manual, what each button in Learn mode does, how to answer each type of question, how the practice exam is scored, and what to do when something looks wrong.

1
Getting started

What is this?

A Tosarion course teaches the skills a Microsoft certification exam covers, in three parts that work together:

  • 🧪 Enhanced hands-on lab guides: step-by-step labs with a screenshot of each screen, done in the product itself.
  • 📘 Exam prep: practice questions organised by lab, each answer checked against Microsoft Learn and explained option by option.
  • 📗 Companion manual (where the course has one): a full textbook for the course, to read online or download as PDF or EPUB.

Anyone can browse the courses under Find a course (Technology › Provider › Course) and open a course's page. Studying needs an account: accounts are by invitation, and your administrator decides which courses you can open. Your courses are listed under 📚 My courses. The lab guides and the manual are covered in Lab guides and the companion manual.

The exam prep has two modes, and you can switch between them at any time:

📘Learn mode

You answer one question at a time and immediately see whether you were right, why, and how to remember it. This is where you learn.

⏱️Practice exam

A mock exam drawn from every topic, with a time limit and answers hidden until the end, for example 45 questions in 2 hours, 700 of 1000 to pass. Each exam shows its own rules. This is where you test yourself.

Think of it like learning to drive

Learn mode is the lessons with an instructor beside you, explaining every move. The practice exam is the mock driving test: nobody helps you, and you find out how you did at the end.

Where is my progress kept?

Everything you do is saved automatically to your account. Sign in on another computer, phone or browser and you carry on exactly where you left off.

Getting started

Quick start: your first 10 minutes

If you have never used anything like this before, follow these steps in order. You can't break anything; every answer can be tried again.

  1. Sign in.

Use the email address your invitation was sent to. The first time, the link in your invitation email lets you choose your name and password. On your own device, tick Remember me to stay signed in after you close the browser; leave it unticked on a shared computer.

  2. Open 📚 My courses and pick an exam.

Press Start (or Resume later on) to open the study screen in Learn mode. Questions are shown in the same order as the course labs or exam objectives.

  3. Read the question, then click the answer you think is right.

For questions with one answer, the result appears straight away. For other types you press Check answer when you're done. How to answer each type.

  4. Read the explanation underneath.

Green means right, red means wrong. Every option has its own explanation, followed by a memory hook and an exam trap to watch for. What each part means.

  5. Press Next → and keep going.

Aim for 10 or 20 questions a session. When you stop, press End study session in the left panel to save. About sessions.

  6. When you've studied a few labs, take a Practice exam.

Every exam is spread across all the labs or objectives, with a countdown on the clock. Afterwards, review your wrong answers. About the practice exam.

Stuck at any point?

Look for a small ? next to a heading, or the ❓ Help button at the top of the page. On the study screen both open this help in a panel beside your work, at the topic for the screen you're on, so you never lose your place.

Help beside your work, and guided tours

In the help panel, 🧭 Tour walks you around the screen you're on, ↗ Full help opens this help center in a new tab, and ✕ closes help so you can carry on.

The first time you open Learn mode, and the first time you start a practice exam, a guided tour highlights each part of the screen in turn and explains it. Press Next → to move on, Back to go back, or Skip tour to close it. To see a tour again, open ❓ Help and press 🧭 Tour, or use the Take the tour link on the practice exam page.

The Student Portal and the course page

At the top, the Student Portal greets you with Welcome and, centred under it, your name, as it is on your account. The Admin Center's overview greets administrators the same way.

📚 My courses lists every course you can study, with what it includes (lab guides, exam prep and, where available, the companion manual) and a ring showing how much of it you've studied. Resume opens the study screen where you left off; 🏠 Overview opens the course page, 🧪 Labs its lab guides and 📗 Manual its companion manual.

Moving around. On every page, the Course button in the top bar lists your courses with how far you've got, and takes you straight to a course's overview, its labs, Learn mode, a practice exam or its manual. Inside a course, the tabs under the top bar move between its parts: 🏠 Overview, 📘 Learn, ⏱️ Practice exam and 🧪 Labs. Lab guides open in the same tab, and the bar at the top of every guide leads back: to the exam prep, to that lab's questions, to a practice exam and to your courses.

The course page is your base for one course. Scroll down and you'll find:

  • Your course: the lab guides, the exam prep and the companion manual side by side, each with its buttons.
  • Your progress: rings showing how many questions you've studied, how accurate you are, and your best exam score, plus your latest exam result with buttons to carry on.
  • Study by lab (or by objective): a card for each lab or exam objective, showing how much of it you've studied, a Study questions button for just its questions and, where available, a Lab guide → button.
  • The exam: a chart of the four question styles and the key facts about scoring.
Why is a lab card greyed out?

That lab has no exam questions, so there's nothing to study for it here.

Getting started

Your progress at a glance

At the top of the Student Portal, the Your progress panel has two parts. Its ? explains every number.

All your courses
Every course you can study now, added up: 412 of 699 questions mastered (answered correctly), how many are to review (answered wrongly; they come back until you get them right), how many are not started yet, and how many courses you have, with lab guides and with a manual. The ring shows the share mastered.
By course
Two courses at a time, each with the same numbers for that course, a bar of mastered (green) and to-review (amber) questions, its practice exams (how many you've saved, your best and your last score, out of 1000) and its days and renewals left. With more than two courses, use ‹ and › or the dots to see the others; with the keyboard, ← and → on those buttons do the same.

Getting started

Moving through a page, one section at a time

The Student Portal's home page, the Tosarion home page and each portal's welcome page are made of sections, each filling the screen under the top bar. Scrolling moves one whole section at a time, so you never see just the top of the next one.

Keys
Page Down and Page Up move one section; so do Space, Shift+Space and ↓ ↑ when no button or field is selected. Home and End go to the first and last section.
A long section
When a section is taller than your screen (on a small screen, or with many courses), the keys page through it first, so nothing is skipped, and the mouse wheel or a swipe scrolls through it freely.
The dots
On a wide screen, the dots at the right edge show which section you're in; select one to go there.
Less motion
If your device is set to reduce motion, the page jumps straight to each section instead of gliding.

Course access: 90 days and renewals

Each course you're given is open to you for 90 days, starting the day you get it. Every course card in the Student Portal shows how long is left, for example ⏳ 42 days left, and how many renewals you have, for example 🔁 3 of 3 renewals left. The label turns amber with 14 days or fewer left and red with a week or less.

Renew
Select + 30 days on the card to add 30 days, free. You can do it three times per course, at any time, even after the course has ended. A renewal counts from the current end date, or from today when the course has already ended.
When a course ends
It moves down to Expired courses on the Student Portal and can't be studied until you renew it. Your progress is kept: your answers, flags and saved exams come back as soon as you renew. Opening an ended course from a bookmark shows a page that says so, with Renew in the Student Portal.
Reminders
We email you 14, 7 and 1 days before a course ends, and on the day it ends. The email's button opens that course's card, where you can renew.
The ? on a card
The round ? in the top-right corner of each course card explains all this for that course, with its own dates and renewals. Press it (or reach it with Tab and press Enter); Esc or ✕ closes it.
No renewals left?
Ask your administrator: they can give you more time.

For administrators. In the Admin Center, open a person in Users and their Exam access tab: each course shows its days and renewals left. Change access extends it by a number of days, sets an end date or sets the renewals left; every change needs a reason and appears, with who made it, in the person's Access history, beside their grants and renewals. A course you grant lasts 90 days unless you choose an end date. The Student Portal tab lists everyone's access, soonest end first, with the courses ending within 14 days.

Learn mode

Learn mode: the study screen

When you open Learn mode you see three areas: the bar across the top, a panel on the left, and the question in the middle.

  • Mode switch (the 📘 Learn and ⏱️ Practice exam tabs under the top bar): flip between Learn mode and the practice exam at any time.
  • Your progress: how many questions are Correct, Need review and New, and your accuracy.
  • The left panel: choose which questions to show and in what order, plus the question map.
  • The question: its number, which lab or objective it belongs to, its type, and the Hint, Show answer and Flag buttons.

Question numbers

Questions are numbered by their place in your current order. The heading Question 12 · 3 of 40 means: question 12 in lab order (or in your random order), and the 3rd of the 40 questions your current filter shows. The squares in the question map use the same numbers.

New, Correct and Needs review

Every question has one status, decided by the most recent time you answered it, whether that was in Learn mode or in a saved practice exam:

StatusMeaningIn the question map
🆕 NewYou haven't answered it yet. White
✅ CorrectYour latest answer was fully right. Green
🔁 Needs reviewYour latest answer was wrong or partly wrong. Red

So a question you got wrong in an exam becomes Needs review, even if you once got it right in Learn mode. Answer it correctly again (in Learn mode or a later exam) and it becomes Correct. A question that needs review shows a badge saying where and when it went wrong, for example 🔁 Needs review · wrong in a practice exam.

If an answer in the question bank is later corrected, questions you had right against the old answer go back to Needs review, so you learn the corrected one.

The numbers at the top

  • Correct, need review and new: how many questions have each status.
  • Accuracy: correct as a percentage of the questions you've answered (Correct + Needs review).

Moving between questions

Use ← Previous and Next → under the question, the arrow keys on your keyboard, or click any square in the question map. Between them, ⟲ Reset Exam Engine lets you start this exam completely fresh (see Resetting). Your place is remembered on your account, so next time you open Learn mode, on any device, you carry on from the same question.

Good habit

Don't race. Read every explanation, even when you were right. Many exam questions test the same idea from a different angle, and the explanations show you how.

Learn mode

How to answer each type of question

The exam uses four styles of question. The type is shown next to the question number, for example Lab 05 · Build a canvas app · Multiple choice · choose 3.

1. Single choice: one right answer

Click the answer you believe is right. That's it: the answer is checked immediately. The right option turns green with a ✓; if you picked a wrong one, it turns red with a ✗. Every option then shows a short explanation of why it is right or wrong.

2. Multiple choice: more than one right answer

The heading tells you how many to pick, for example choose 3. Click each answer you want; click again to unselect it. A counter shows how many you've picked. When you've picked the right number, the Check answer button lights up. Press it to see the result.

3. Hotspot: pick one option in each box

On the real exam you'd choose from drop-down lists inside a picture. Here, each list is shown as a numbered box under the picture. Read the requirement on each box, click one option in every box, then press Check answer. Yes/No questions work the same way: each statement is a box with a Yes and a No button.

4. Drag & drop: move items onto targets

You get a set of items (the dashed area at the top) and a list of targets (numbered boxes, each with an empty space). Put the right item in each target. There are two ways:

  • Click then click, the easiest way: click an item (it turns purple), then click the empty space in a target.
  • Drag: press and hold an item, move it onto a target, and let go.

An item can be used more than once, or not at all, just like on the real exam. To take an item back out of a target, click the small × beside it. When every target is filled, press Check answer. Some drag & drop questions are about order (Step 1, Step 2…): put the actions in the order you'd do them.

Changed your mind after checking?

Press ↺ Try this question again at the bottom of the answer. Your Learn-mode answer is removed and the question resets so you can answer it again.

Answers are checked online

Learn-mode answers are checked by the server, so you need a connection. If you're offline, your choice stays on screen: press Check answer again when you're back online.

Understanding the answer

After you answer, a set of coloured boxes appears below the question. Each one has a different job. Here they are from top to bottom.

✅ / ❌ Verdict
Whether you were fully right. For box questions it also says how many boxes you got right, for example “2 of 3 boxes right”.
❗ Test-bank answer corrected
Some answers in the original question bank were wrong. On those questions this red box shows what the bank said, the correct answer, and why. Learn the correct answer. More about corrections.
🎯 On the exam, pick this
A one-line reminder of the answer to choose for this question, and the idea behind it to carry into the exam.
Explanation
The full reasoning, tied to the words in the question.
🧠 How to remember it
A memory trick, such as a rhyme, a comparison or a keyword to listen for. The little card on the right (an emoji and a short phrase) is a picture to fix it in your mind.
⚡ Exam trap
Wrong answers on certification exams are designed to look right. This tells you the trap and how to spot it.
Key fact
The single most important sentence. Good for revising the night before.
✅ Verified answer
Every answer was checked against official documentation and other reliable sources. Evidence points add up how strongly those sources support the answer (an official documentation page counts most), and supporting sources is how many there are.
Microsoft Learn · Also confirmed by

Box questions: your answer, box by box

For hotspot and drag & drop questions, each box turns green (right) or red (wrong). It shows what you chose and why that's wrong, the correct choice, and why each of the other choices is wrong.

The question picture

Many questions come with a picture, shown inside a frame that looks like a small browser window. It might be an exhibit (code, a table, a screen) or the answer area (the drop-downs or drag targets as they look on the real exam).

When you check your answer, the answer area turns into the correct answer right in front of you: the empty answer area fades into the filled-in one, and a green ✓ pops up beside each correct answer.

Tabs
If a question has more than one picture, click a tab to switch.
↻ Replay
Play the reveal animation again.
Show blank
Switch back to the empty answer area to test yourself.
⤢ Zoom
Open the picture full size (or just click the picture).
What does a red ✗ on the picture mean?

The pictures come from the original question bank. Where that bank was wrong, the wrong spot is marked with a red ✗ so you don't learn it by mistake. Always follow the green answer and the explanation.

To close a zoomed picture, click anywhere or press Esc.

Case studies

Some questions belong to a case study: a long description of an imaginary company (for example “Contoso, Ltd”) followed by several questions about it. The real exam has these too.

The company description is folded into a panel at the top of the question so it doesn't push the question off the screen. Click it to open the scenario and click again to close it. Once you open it, it stays open for the other questions until you close it.

How to tackle a case study

Read the question first, then open the scenario and look only for the details that question needs. Reading the whole scenario first wastes time.

Hints, Show answer and flags

💡 Hint
Stuck? Press Hint (or H) before you answer. The hint points you at the key idea without telling you the answer. Using a hint doesn't count against you. Hints aren't available in the practice exam, just as on the real exam.
👁 Show answer
Don't know it yet? Show answer shows the correct answer straight away, with why each option is right or wrong and the full explanation. It is only a look: nothing is recorded, so the question's status doesn't change. The button turns into 🙈 Hide answer; press it to hide the answer and try the question yourself, and that answer is checked as usual. Show answer is only in Learn mode: the practice exam, like the real one, never shows answers before you finish.
☆ Flag
A bookmark. Press Flag (or F) on any question you want to come back to. Flagged questions get a gold dot in the question map, and the Flagged filter shows only those. In the practice exam the button is called Flag for review and works the same way.
13
Learn mode

Finding questions: the left panel

Show
All lists every question. New lists those you haven't answered yet. Needs review lists those whose latest answer was wrong, in Learn mode or a practice exam (details). ★ Flagged lists your bookmarks. Each button shows how many questions it holds.
Order
Lab order (or Objective order) follows the course from the first lab onwards, which is best while you're still learning. Random shuffles them, which is best once you know the material. Press Random again to reshuffle. Question numbers follow the order you choose.
Question type and Lab
Drop-down lists to narrow things down further, for example only drag & drop questions, or only one lab.

Study sessions: save or discard

A study session starts automatically the first time you answer a question in Learn mode. Everything you answer after that belongs to the session until you end it.

When you're done, press 🏁 End study session in the left panel. A box shows how many you answered, how many you got right, and roughly how long you studied. Then you choose:

💾 Save session
Keep all the answers from this session.
🗑️ Discard session
Remove this session's answers, as if you never answered them. Those questions go back to the status they had before.
📘 Keep studying
Close the box and carry on.
When would I discard a session?

When you were just guessing to explore. Discarding stops those answers spoiling your accuracy and your New and Needs review lists.

What if I just close the page?

Nothing is lost: your answers are already saved to your account, and the session simply stays open until you end it next time.

Practice exam

The practice exam

The practice exam is a mock test. Click ⏱️ Practice exam at the top of the study screen. Each exam shows its own rules on that page:

RuleWhat it means for you
📝 Number of questionsEvery practice exam for this course has the same number of questions.
⏱️ Time limitA countdown runs at the top. When it reaches 0:00:00 the exam ends and is scored.
🧪 Every area, balancedThe questions are shared out across all the labs (or across the exam objectives, by their weight) as evenly as possible. An area with only a few questions gives all it has, and the spare places go to the areas with the most questions.
🎯 Pass markYour score is out of a maximum, usually 1000 with 700 to pass (how it's worked out).

1. Start

The practice exam page shows the rules, how many of the questions you've taken in saved exams, what your next exam will contain and how many questions come from each area. Press Start practice exam →.

Which questions you get: new ones first

  1. Each exam uses questions you haven't taken yet.

A question counts as taken once you've answered it in an exam you saved. Exams you discard don't count.

  2. The last round is topped up to a full exam.

When fewer untaken questions are left than an exam needs, the exam uses all of them, then fills the rest with questions you've taken before, choosing ones that need review first.

  3. After that: wrong-answers exams.

Once you've taken every question, the page offers a Wrong-answers exam made of the questions that still need review, a full exam at a time and balanced across the areas. Keep going until none are left, then use Reset Exam Engine to start over.

A question that appears twice in the bank in different wording counts as one question and is never asked twice in the same exam (see repeated questions).

2. Answer the questions

You answer exactly as in Learn mode (see how to answer each type), with one big difference: you don't see whether you're right. You can change an answer as often as you like until you finish. Questions are numbered by their place in the exam, for example Question 3 of 45.

The countdown
Shows the time left. It turns red at 10 minutes, a message warns you, and in the last 5 minutes it pulses. At 0:00:00 the exam ends by itself (see Time's up).
Going back
Use ← Previous or click any number in the question map to revisit a question. Flagged questions have a gold dot so you can find them quickly.
Saving as you go
Every answer and flag is saved to your account as you go. Close the page, or switch to another device, and the exam continues where you left off. The countdown keeps running while you're away, just as a real exam clock would.
Losing your connection
Your exam answers are kept and sent as soon as you're back online. A banner at the bottom of the page shows how many changes are waiting.

Practice exam

Finishing, ending early, or running out of time

When you press Finish exam, a box first asks Finish and score this exam?. It warns you about questions you haven't answered or have still flagged. Press Back to the exam to keep working, or Finish and score.

Once the exam is scored you can't go back into it. A second box shows your score and asks what to do with the result:

💾 Save result
Adds the result to your history. Your best score appears on the exam's home page, the questions you answered count as taken, and the ones you got wrong become Needs review. Choose this for a genuine attempt.
👀 View without saving
Shows your results and lets you review your answers, but keeps nothing: the questions stay untaken and their status doesn't change. A yellow box on the results page reminds you it isn't saved, with a 💾 Save result button if you change your mind.
🗑️ Discard
Throws the attempt away, with nothing saved. Its questions stay untaken, so they can come up in your next exam.
Didn't finish every question?

Unanswered questions score 0. If you meant to stop, End exam early is usually the better choice, because it scores only what you answered.

⏹ End exam early

The ⏹ End exam early button sits between ← Previous and Next → under every exam question. Use it when you need to stop before the end. A box tells you how many questions you've answered and gives you three choices:

💾 Save results for the questions I answered
Scores only the questions you answered and saves that result. The questions you didn't reach are left out completely: they don't count against you and stay untaken, so they can come up in your next exam. For example, 3 answered with 2 right scores 2 ÷ 3 = 667 out of 1000. Your history shows it as “3 of 45 answered, ended early”. This option needs at least one answered question.
🗑️ Discard this attempt
Nothing is saved and every question in the exam stays untaken.
⟲ Reset Exam Engine
Erases everything for this exam: all Learn-mode answers, every saved exam, flags, sessions and settings, as if you were opening it for the first time. You're asked to confirm first, because this can't be undone. See Resetting.
✕
Closes the box. The exam carries on and the countdown keeps running.

⏰ Time's up

The time limit is kept by the server, not by your computer's clock. When the countdown reaches 0:00:00 the exam ends by itself and is scored like a normal finish: questions you didn't answer score 0. Answers sent after the end aren't accepted. The box is titled Time's up: keep this result? and offers Save, View without saving and Discard. If you were away when time ran out, the exam is scored for you, and the same box appears the next time you open the practice exam, until you save or discard the result.

17
Practice exam

How your score is worked out

Your score is out of the exam's maximum, usually 1000, and the exam's pass mark, often 700, is a pass.

  1. Every question is worth the same.

    In a 45-question exam out of 1000, each question is worth 1000 ÷ 45 ≈ 22.2 points.

  2. Partly right answers earn part of the points.

Each correct selection earns its share:
    • Single choice: right = all the points, wrong = 0.
    • Multiple choice: each correct pick earns its share. Getting 2 of the 3 right answers earns ⅔ of the points.
    • Hotspot / drag & drop: each correct box earns its share. Getting 2 of 3 boxes right earns ⅔.

  3. Unanswered questions score 0.

So it's always worth answering, even if you have to guess. The exception is End exam early → Save, which scores only the questions you answered.

  4. Your score is your points out of the maximum, scaled to the exam's maximum score.

A worked example

A 45-question exam out of 1000. You get 31 fully right (31 questions' worth), two hotspot questions with 2 of 3 boxes right (⅔ + ⅔ = 1.33), and the rest wrong or unanswered. That's 32.33 out of 45, which is 71.9%, so a score of 719: a pass at 700. One more wrong answer instead of a right one would give 30.33 ÷ 45 = 674: a fail.

Is this my real exam score?

It's a good guide, not a promise. Real certification exams use their own scaled scoring, and question weights can differ. Aim to score comfortably above the pass mark, ideally well above it, across several practice exams.

18
Practice exam

Results and reviewing your wrong answers

The results page shows your score around a ring (the small mark on the ring is the pass line), pass or fail, the percentage, how many were correct, wrong or not answered, and the time taken. Below that:

  • Score by lab (or objective): green bars are 70% or better, red bars need work.
  • Wrong answers: questions you answered wrongly, by their number in the exam.
  • Not answered: questions you skipped.

Reviewing

Press Review wrong answers →, or click any question number, to go through your mistakes. Each question opens in Learn-style view showing your answer next to the correct one with the full explanation. You can also review the questions you didn't answer. Back to results returns to the results page.

Needs review: what to study next

When you save a practice exam, every question you got wrong becomes Needs review. Press Practice these in Learn mode, or choose Show → Needs review in Learn mode, to work through them. The button shows how many there are, for example “Needs review · 12”.

  • Each one opens fresh, without an old Learn-mode answer, so you genuinely answer it again.
  • Answer it correctly and it becomes Correct: it turns green in the map and leaves the list.
  • Questions you skipped don't need review. They weren't mistakes, you just didn't reach them. They keep whatever status they had, and you can review them from the results page.
  • Exams you viewed without saving, or discarded, never change a question's status.
  • Once you've taken every question, the practice exam offers these as wrong-answers exams, a full exam at a time.
19
About the questions

Corrected answers and evidence

The questions come from a question bank. When every answer was checked against official documentation, some of the bank's answers turned out to be wrong. Those questions show:

  • a red ⚠️ Test-bank answer corrected badge next to the question title;
  • after you answer, a red box showing what the bank said, the correct answer and why;
  • on the picture, a red ✗ where the bank's wrong answer was marked.

Every answer, corrected or not, was decided by weighing the evidence. Each source earns points: an official documentation page that states the fact counts most, then official training material, then vendor blogs, expert blogs and community discussion. The answer with the strongest evidence wins. The Verified answer box shows the evidence points and the number of supporting sources. The exam's home page says how many answers were corrected.

What should I learn?

Always learn the answer shown here. It is the one backed by the official documentation, which is what the real exam is based on.

20
About the questions

Repeated and similar questions

🔁 Same question, reworded
Some questions appear twice in different words. Both versions are kept so you learn to recognise the idea however it is worded. Each carries a badge such as “Same question as Question 31, reworded”, and a practice exam never asks both versions. That's why the practice exam counts slightly fewer different questions than the total number of questions.
Same question, different options
Some questions are asked several times with a different set of answer options. The best answer depends on which options are offered. After answering, the Related questions box links them so you can compare.
“Does the solution meet the goal?” series
Some questions describe the same situation and then propose different solutions, answered Yes or No. They look alike but each one is different: read the proposed solution carefully.

About the questions

Lab guides and the companion manual

Every question is matched to the course lab (or exam objective) that teaches its topic, for example data model questions to Lab 03 · Build the data model. The lab is shown above each question. In Lab order, questions follow the course from the first lab onwards, so you can study each lab's questions straight after doing the lab.

On the exam's home page, each lab card has a Study questions button for that lab's questions and, where the course has one, a Lab guide → button that opens the step-by-step lab instructions; the 🧪 Labs tab opens the list of all of them. The bar at the top of every guide has Back to … Exam Prep, Study this lab's questions, Practice exam and My courses. Lab guides are part of the course, so you need to be signed in with access to the course to open them.

The companion manual. Courses that have one show a 📗 Companion manual card on the course page and a 📗 Manual button under 📚 My courses. 📖 Read online opens the manual in the browser; ⬇ PDF and ⬇ EPUB download it for reading offline or on an e-reader. Like the lab guides, it needs an account with access to the course. A good rhythm is to read a lab's chapter, do the lab, then answer its questions.

Signing in, invitations and passwords

Use Sign in in the top bar, or open any page that needs an account: the sign-in form appears right there, and once you're in, the page you asked for opens.
Creating your account
Accounts start from an invitation email. Its Create your account → button opens a page with your email filled in: choose your name and a password of at least 12 characters. Opening /register without the link explains this and offers I have an account: sign in.
Forgot your password?
On the sign-in form, choose Forgot your password?, enter your email and select Send the link. The email's link works once, for an hour.
An old or used link
A password link that has expired or was already used says so as soon as it opens, with Get a new link, so you never type a new password for nothing.
Without JavaScript
Signing in and asking for a password link work even with JavaScript turned off in your browser. Creating an account and choosing a new password need it: those pages say so.

Remember me and staying signed in

The sign-in form of every Tosarion portal has a Remember me box under the password. It starts unticked.

Unticked
You're signed out when you close the browser, or after a day without using the site. Use this on a shared computer.
Ticked
You stay signed in on that device after closing the browser: for up to 14 days without using the site, and 30 days at most from signing in. Use this only on your own device.

Either way, Sign out ends the session at once, and changing your password, or an administrator disabling your account, signs you out everywhere.

What's new

Every Tosarion portal has a ✨ What's new button in its top bar (on a phone, just the ✨). It lists the new features and fixes that concern you in that portal.

The count
A bright number on the button (and on the What's new tab in the left-hand menu of the Admin Center, the Customer Center and the Instructor Studio) counts the entries you haven't acknowledged yet. With nothing waiting, the number disappears.
The notice
When something is waiting, a short notice greets you once per visit, in the top-right corner (across the top on a phone). Review opens the list; ✕ closes the notice. It never appears on top of a guided tour: it waits until the tour ends.
The list
One card per entry: a New feature or Fix label, the date, where it is and what it does. Entries you haven't acknowledged come first. All, Features and Fixes narrow the list.
Take me to it!
Opens the place where the feature or fix lives.
Show me
Opens that place and walks you through it with a short tour.
Take the tour
The same tour, right where you are. Use Next → and Back (or the arrow keys); Skip tour or Esc closes it. The last step's Acknowledge ✓ acknowledges the entry for you.
Read the help
Opens the section of this help that explains the entry.
Acknowledged
Press it once you've looked at an entry. The card then says Acknowledged on and the date, it moves down the list, the count goes down in every portal, and the Tosarion team knows the change reached you.

You only see changes made after you first signed in, so when you're new the list says You're all caught up. New features and fixes will appear here.

The portals and the top bar

Tosarion has a portal for each role: the Student Portal, and for those who hold the role, the Admin Center, the Beta Lab, the Customer Center and the Instructor Studio. One sign-in opens them all. Wherever portals are listed (the portal switcher, the page that asks where to go after you sign in), they are in alphabetical order: Admin Center, Beta Lab, Customer Center, Instructor Studio, Student Portal, showing only the ones you can open.

Portal switcher
The button next to the Tosarion logo names the portal you're in and lists every portal you can open, in alphabetical order, marking the one you're in with You are here.
The logo
The Tosarion mark takes on the portal's own colours, in light and dark mode, so you can tell at a glance where you are.
✨ What's new
New features and fixes for you in this portal (see What's new).
◐ Theme
Switches between light and dark; your choice is remembered on this device.

Emails from Tosarion

Tosarion emails you only when there's something to do: an invitation to create your account, a password reset you asked for, or, for a new administrator, a link to set your password.

What they look like
The Tosarion logo at the top, the message in a card, and one coloured button such as Create your account → or Choose a new password →. They follow your mail app's light or dark mode.
Button not working?
Under the button the same link is written out: copy it into your browser's address bar.
Why did I get this?
The last lines of every email say why it was sent and where to get help.
Links expire
Each link works once. An invitation lasts two weeks and a reset link an hour; if one has expired, ask for a new one (Forgot your password? on the sign-in page, or your administrator for an invitation).

Can't find an email? Check your junk or spam folder, and make sure the address you gave is the one on your account.

When a page can't open

When Tosarion can't open a page, it says so plainly on a Tosarion page, with ways on: Go to the home page, Help, and Go back when there is somewhere to go back to.

Page not found
The address doesn't exist: a typo, or a link to something that has moved. Start again from the home page or Find a course.
The page needs an account and you're signed out (for example a lab guide opened from a bookmark). Sign in right there: the page you asked for opens straight afterwards.
No access to this course
You're signed in, but your account doesn't include that course (its home page, Learn, practice exams or lab guides). Ask your instructor or administrator to add it; it then appears in 📚 My courses. A portal your account has no role for shows a similar page, listing the portals you can open.
Something went wrong
A fault on our side. Try again in a moment. If it keeps happening, contact support and quote the reference shown on the page: it lets the team find exactly what happened.
We're updating Tosarion
Tosarion is being updated and will be back in a minute or two. Your progress is saved; reload the page shortly.

For administrators: people and acknowledgements

In the Admin Center, Users lists everyone with an account. Search by name or email, or pick a role to see only the people who hold it; open a person to change their roles or courses.

Working with the lists. Users, Invitations and Exams share one layout: each person shows their initials, name and email; statuses are coloured labels (green for active, open and live; amber for pending; red for disabled, locked, revoked or expired); dates read like 18 Oct 2026, 21:50 in your own format, with the full date when you point at one. Select a column heading to sort by it, and again to reverse the order. Invitations has a filter box that narrows the list as you type. On a phone every row becomes a card with its details on labelled lines, so nothing is cut off. On Exams the live version of each course is highlighted; Make live on an older one rolls back to it.

On the Admin Center's What's new page, Show who has acknowledged lists every feature and fix, for every portal, with a bar of how many have acknowledged it. Each person is Acknowledged (with when they first saw it, took its tour and acknowledged it), Waiting, or Not applicable when they first signed in after the change was released.

For administrators: managing each portal

Above the breadcrumb on every Admin Center page is a row of tabs: Admin Center first, then Beta Lab, Customer Center, Instructor Studio and Student Portal. The tab you're on is highlighted. Admin Center brings you back to the overview; each other tab opens that portal's page, inside the Admin Center.

Status
Live when the portal is open to everyone with its role, or Coming soon when its home still says what is coming.
People
Everyone who holds the portal's role, with their status and last sign-in. Open a person to change them; People with the … role opens the same list in Users.
What's new
The features and fixes for that portal's people, each with a bar of how many have acknowledged it.
Student Portal only
Its courses, each with its live content version and how many versions it has, and everyone's course access: days and renewals left, soonest end first (see Course access for administrators).

Where a portal has nothing more to manage yet, its page says More settings for this portal will appear here.

With the keyboard: Tab reaches the selected tab; ← and → move along the row, Home and End jump to the first and last tab, and Enter opens one. On a phone, swipe the row sideways to see every tab.

The refreshed look

Tosarion has a fresher, more consistent look in every portal and every email:

Friendlier error pages
When a page can't open you get a clear Tosarion page that says what happened and how to go on; signed out, you can sign in right there. See When a page can't open.
Branded emails
Invitation and password emails carry the Tosarion logo, one clear button and the link written out. See Emails from Tosarion.
Clearer focus outlines
With the keyboard, the button, link or field you're on has a coloured outline with a soft glow. See Where am I?.
Sign-in without JavaScript
Signing in and asking for a password link work even with JavaScript turned off. See Signing in.
Phone-friendly admin lists
In the Admin Center, Users, Invitations and Exams share one layout, sort by any column and turn into cards on a phone. See Working with the lists.

Resetting, and Reset Exam Engine

To start over, press ⟲ Reset options… at the bottom of the left panel, or the same link in the Your progress section of the exam's home page. Resetting only affects this exam; your other exams are untouched. Choose what to clear:

⏹️ Abandon the exam in progress
Only shown during an exam. Ends it without a score; your earlier results are kept.
📘 Learn-mode answers and flags
Clears every Learn-mode answer, flag and study session. Practice exam results are kept.
⏱️ Practice-exam history
Deletes all saved exam results, plus any exam in progress. Every question becomes untaken again, so exams start a new round. Learn-mode answers are kept.
⟲ Reset Exam Engine
Resets everything for this exam: Learn-mode answers, flags, study sessions, every saved exam, the exam in progress, the guided tours and your settings. Every question goes back to New, like opening the exam for the first time. It's also offered as the button between ← Previous and Next → in Learn mode, and in the End exam early box.

After choosing, a red box asks you to confirm with Yes, clear it. Press Cancel if you changed your mind. A reset can't be undone.

Using it on a phone or tablet

On a small screen the left panel is tucked away. Tap ☰ at the top right to open it over the whole screen (when you're reviewing a practice exam, its review box with Back to results is at the top), pick a question, and it closes by itself. Inside a course, the top bar and the course tabs stay solid as you scroll, so the question never shows through them. Some button labels are shortened, for example “Exam” instead of “Practice exam”.

For drag & drop questions, use tap then tap: tap an item, then tap the target.

Your progress follows your account, so you can start on a computer and carry on on your phone.

Troubleshooting and common questions

I can't see a course

📚 My courses lists only the courses your account has access to. If a course you need is missing, or says you don't have access, ask your administrator to give your account access to it. You can see every published course under Find a course.

I forgot my password

Go to Forgot your password?, enter your email and we'll send a link to choose a new one. The link works once and expires in an hour. Choosing a new password signs you out everywhere.

The page says I'm offline

Your connection dropped. Practice exam answers and flags are kept and saved automatically as soon as you're back online; the banner shows how many changes are waiting. Learn-mode answers need a connection to be checked, so wait until you're back online and press Check answer again.

I was signed out

For your security you're signed out when you close the browser, after a day without using the site, and when your password is changed. If you ticked Remember me, closing the browser keeps you signed in, and you're signed out after two weeks without using the site, or 30 days after signing in. Sign in again and you carry on where you left off.

The Check answer button is greyed out

It unlocks once you've answered completely: the right number of choices for multiple choice, one choice in every box for hotspot, and an item in every target for drag & drop.

The Next button doesn't do anything

You're on the last question of the current list. Change the filter under Show (for example to All) to see more questions.

I closed the page in the middle of an exam

Just open the exam again and choose Practice exam. The exam carries on where you left off, with your answers and flags. The countdown keeps running while you're away; if it ran out, the exam is scored when you come back and you're asked whether to keep the result.

Can I choose the exam length?

No: every practice exam follows the course's exam rules (number of questions, time limit and pass mark). To practise only a few questions, use End exam early → Save, which scores just the ones you answered.

The practice exam says “All done!” and has no Start button

You've taken every question and none need review. Well done! Press ⟲ Reset options… → Reset Exam Engine to start again from scratch.

I saved an exam by mistake

Use ⟲ Reset options… → Practice-exam history. This deletes all saved exam results for this exam.

A lab card has no “Lab guide” button

That lab doesn't have a hosted guide.

Why does a question say “Answer corrected”?

The original question bank had that answer wrong. See Corrected answers and evidence.
